#BotongPinoy2022 – In latest ad, Miguel Zubiri promotes vaccinations – and his reelection bid
The camp of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri is running a 30-second television advertisement that encourages Filipinos who are eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 when it is possible.
The begins with a clip of a privileged speech that Zubiri delivered before the Senate last July where he touted the importance of vaccinations. “Tanging bakuna lang po sa ngayon ang susi sa pagbangon muli ng ekonomiya, pagbabalik ng trabaho, at kalusugan ng ating mga kababayan. Hindi po tayo dapat tumigil hangga’t ang bawat isang Pilipino ay nabakunahan,” (“Vaccine is the only key in reviving our economy, the return of quality jobs, and the health of our people”) Zubiri said.
Zubiri then went on to speak in front of the camera, touting himself as the author of Republic Act 11525 or the COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021. He urged the people to get vaccinated for everyone’s safety and to jumpstart the nation’s economic rebound. The monicker “Trabahador ng Senado” (“The Workhorse of the Senate”) can also be seen in the background.
Zubiri is eligible to seek a second term as Senator in 2022. However, it is not yet clear under which ticket he will run. A former congressman from Bukidnon, Zubiri was declared the 12th placer during the 2007 senatorial elections although he resigned in 2011 following allegations of electoral fraud. He ran for the Senate again in 2013 but lost, although he finally made it by 2016.
