#EarthquakePH – Magnitude 6.7 quake jolts Metro Manila, southern Luzon
A strong earthquake with a magnitude 6.7 earthquake jolted Metro Manila and parts of southern Luzon early Saturday morning (July 24).
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that Calatagan, Batangas is the epicenter of the earthquake at a depth of 116 kilometers. The earthquake, which is tectonic in origin, hit at 4:49 AM Philippine time.
PHIVOLCS has already been reporting aftershocks, the strongest of which had a magnitude of 5.1 occuring just eight minutes after the mainshock. The agency added that no major damages are expected from the quakes.
The sudden quake coincided with sustained torrential monsoon rains enhanced by typhoon “Fabian” being experienced throughout Luzon.
