Mocha Uson to receive Outstanding Alumni Award from UST
The University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association has announced that Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson will be receiving this year’s Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Award for Government and Public Service.
Speaking to CNN Philippines, UST Alumni Association president Henry Tenedero said that Uson wil be getting the award “to serve as an inspiration to other government workers, regardless of their political affiliation.” A former entertainer-turned-social media superstar, Uson is recognized as one of the most vocal supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte even during the campaign two years ago.
In an interview with UST student publication The Varsitarian last year, Uson confirmed that she earned a degree in medical technology from the university back in 1998 and was in fact admitted to the institution’s famed Faculty of Medicine and Surgery before dropping out to pursue her passion in performing.
According to UST’s official website, the Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Award is the highest recognition that it bestows to any of its graduates or former students “in recognition of their significant and exemplary contribution to the society and the Church.”
“The award is conferred upon an Alumna/Alumnus who exemplifies the Thomasian core values in his/her respective field of expertise: competence in pioneering human endeavors, commitment to his/her profession and compassion for others, particularly the marginalized in society,” it is further explained.
