Del Pilar is best known in Philippine history for being part of the triumvirate, together with Jose Rizal and Graciano Lopez-Jaena, that initiated the propaganda movement against the Spanish colonial government from the 1880s until his death in 1896.
Using the pen names “Plaridel” and “Pupdoh,” Del Pilar wrote essays, articles, and satirical pieces like “Dasalan at Tocsohan” which highlighted the abuses of Spanish government officials and even by members of the clergy.
Del Pilar founded the nationalistic newspaper “Diariong Tagalog” in 1882. He went on to serve as a journalist and editor for “La Solidaridad,” the leading mouthpiece of the propaganda movement. He is now remembered as the provincial hero of Bulacan, according to their 2007 Administrative Code.
