#WalangPasok – July 24 2017 holiday in Quezon City

(UPDATED, July 17)

President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to deliver his second State of the Nation Address or SONA this July 24 (Monday) at the House of Representatives in Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

In line with this, Mayor Herbert Bautista has announced the suspension  of classes for all levels on the said day throughout the city. Just like in previous years, this is intended to minimize traffic congestion around Batasan Complex, particular along Commonwealth Avenue. Bautista made the announcement through his official Facebook page last July 17.

Members of the Philippine National Police typically flock to the area not only to enhance security but to serve as a shield against protesters. During the SONA day, the northbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue is closed to vehicles, which causes hour-long traffic jams.

Prior to 2015, classes in the following schools are the only ones suspended whenever a President delivers the SONA:

• Payatas B-Annex Elementary School
• Payatas C Elementary School
• San Diego Elementary School
• West Fairview Elementary School

High Schools:
