NANLILIGAW? | Mar Roxas visits Iglesia ni Cristo head Eduardo Manalo
Former Interior secretary and administration standard bearer Mar Roxas paid a courtesy visit to Iglesia ni Cristo’s (INC) Central Office in Quezon City Wednesday morning.
According to a report on the INC-run Eagle News International, Roxas came with his wife, broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez. The highlight of Roxas’ visit was his one-on-one meeting with INC Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo at the Central Office’s Bulwagan Room.
With a membership of about two million, candidates running for national and local positions seek INC’s support every election cycle especially given its reputation for bloc-voting. The leadership of INC is expected to announce its preferred candidates (referred to as “tagubilin“) a week before the elections.
Roxas has benefited from INC’s support in the past. The group backed him during the 2004 senatorial elections, where he landed in first place with 19 million votes. Six years later, Roxas once more received the group’s backing in the Vice Presidential race, where he narrowly lost to then-Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay.
