National Language Month Theme 2015
The National Language Month or “Buwan ng Wika” is one of the major annual events celebrated in elementary, high school and even colleges nationwide. According to the Commission on Filipino Language (Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino or KWF), the theme for this year’s celebration is “Filipino: Wika ng Pambansang Kaunlaran” (Filipino: The Language of National Progress).
Department of Education’s Memorandum #79 s. 2015 stipulates that the aim of this year’s theme is to show the importance of language in achieving greater progress as a nation (“ang kahalagahan ng wika na higit pa sa pambansang kaunlaran“). Schools can use any of the following sub-themes:
1) Filipino: The Language of Cultural Progress (Wika ng Kaunlarang Pangkultura)
2) Filipino: The Language of Economic Progress (Wika ng Kaunlarang Pang-ekonomiya)
3) Filipino: The Language of Social Progress (Wika ng Kaunlarang Panglipunan)
4) Filipino: The Language of Technological Progress (Wika ng Kaunlarang Panteknolohiya)

As mentioned last year, the National Language Month is celebrated in schools across the country through a wide array of activities, including speech choir (sabayang pagbigkas), stage plays (dula-dulaan), song-and-dance numbers (sayaw-awit o sayawit), and many others.
