#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for July 6 2015 due to tropical storm ‘Egay’

(UPDATED, 3:30 PM of June 6)

With tropical storm “Egay” still expected to affect much of Northern Luzon tomorrow, various local government units have announced the suspension of classes in their respective localities for July 6, Monday. Keep in mind that the list below will be updated as soon as new information becomes available:

ALL LEVELS:

Ilocos Sur

Agoo, La Union

Bauang, La Union

San Fernando, La Umion

Cavite

Benguet, including Baguio City

Calaca, Batangas

Abra

Obando, Bulacan

Cainta, Rizal

Antipolo City

As of 11PM today, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated that tropical storm “Egay” is at 125 km. southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. It has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center and gustiness of up to 100 KPH and is moving northwest at 9 KPH.

The weather bureau also raised public storm warnings in the areas listed below. The next storm bulletin is due 5 AM.:

PSWS #2 (61-120kph Expected in 24 hrs.)
Batanes, Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra.

PSWS #1 (30-60kph Expected in 36 hrs.)
Pangasinan, Isabela, Benguet, La Union, Mt. Province, and Ifugao.

President Benigno Aquino III’s Executive Order 66 mandates the following:

a. When Signal No. 1 is raised by PAGASA, classes at the pre-school level, in the affected area, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended.

b. When Signal No. 2 is raised by PAGASA, classes at the pre-school, elementary and secondary levels, in the affected area, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended

In other words, classes up to high school should be suspended in the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra for tomorrow since they are under signal #2.

Meanwhile, classes in preschool up to kindergarten should be suspended in the provinces of Pangasinan, Isabela, Benguet, La Union, Mt. Province, and Ifugao because they are under signal #1.

PS: The Filipino Scribe is calling on netizens to avoid posting misleading information regarding class suspensions, especially by tagging official sources like DepEd and PIA. It only leads to confusion among the public.

Likewise, please refrain from reposting announcement of previous class suspensions. This is only misleading the public. Also, do not hesitate to call the attention of those who post wrong info re class suspensions so they can be stopped.
