Darren Espanto set to become youngest person to have a concert in SM MoA Arena

Teen singing sensation Darren Espanto is all-set for his upcoming birthday concert this May 29 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

According to his home network ABS-CBN, he will be the youngest performer to have a solo show on the said venue. It will be held five days after he turns 14.

Speaking to selected bloggers during a recent event at the head office of his record label MCA Music, Darren revealed that thinking about his scheduled concert makes him quite nervous.

Kinakabahan po ako sa magiging reaction ng mga tao,” he said. “Marami pong medley and I’ll be doing some acoustic songs, ballads and dancing, this is the most dancing I’ve done before,” he added.

Darren’s guest stars include The Voice of the Philippines 2013 champion Mitoy Yonting and Jason Dy, this year’s winner. Second season runner-up Alisah Bonaobra will also be performing.

The birthday concert is the latest addition to Darren’s long list of career achievements since he finished runner-up in last year’s edition of The Voice Kids with the guidance of his competition coach, pop superstar Sarah Geronimo.

His self-titled debut album Darren was released December 2014, spawning hits like “In Love Ako Sayo” and his version of Justin Bieber’s “Somebody to Love.”

Last January, he earned critical acclaim for his performance of “Tell the World of His Love” during Pope Francis’ Encounter With the Youth event at the University of Santo Tomas.

With ABS-CBN scheduled to launch the second edition of TVK by July, he has this reminder to those who wish to follow in his footsteps: “Be humble. Without humility, you can’t go as far as you want to.”

“You don’t have to win para mapatunayan sa sarili mo na kaya mo (to prove to yourself that you can make it),” the former balikbayan from Calgary, Alberta, Canada added.

As for his birthday wish, Darren said he hopes he can spend more time being a “normal” kid, like being able to hang around with his friends.
