El Gamma Penumbra wins in ‘Asia’s Got Talent’
Shadow Dance Group El Gamma Penumbra of the Philippines was declared the grand champion of the first season of Asia’s Got Talent.
As the grand champion, the group stands to get US $100,000 as well as a performance contract with Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands.
Apart from defeating three other finalists from the Philippines (singers Gwyneth Dorado and Gerphil Geraldine Flores as well as the dance group Junior New System), the group also bested The Talento of Thailand, Dance Thrilogy of Singapore, Khusugtun of Mongolia, acrobatic dancers Gao Lin and Liu Xin of China, and Triqstar of Japan.
El Gamma Penumbra first gained national fame following its participation in ABS-CBN’s Pilipinas Got Talent. It performed using the tourism promotional anthem “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas” in the finals where it eventually placed fourth.
The group remained active in the network’s other shows since their impressive run in that competition, performing tributes to the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” in late 2013 and for the families of the 44 officers from the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force that died during a botched operation last January.
