Darren Espanto sings “Tell the World of His Love” at Pope Francis event
Thirteen-year-old singing sensation Darren Espanto performed “Tell the World of His Love” during the Encounter with the Youth Event led by Pope Francis at the University of Santo Tomas late Sunday morning.
Espanto sang during the closing part of the event. His performance lasted for over five minutes. The crowd was obviously very much into the performance.
The kids on stage, together with Pope Francis and some prelates, later on held hands as towards the end of the song.
Composed by Trina Belamide and originally interpreted by Carelle Mangaliag and Jeff Arcilla, “Tell the World of His Love” is the theme song of the 1995 World Youth Day held in Manila. It was led by then-Pope John Paul II, who has since been canonized.
Espanto, for his part, shot to fame last year when he participated in the first season of The Voice Kids. He placed second to Lyca Gairanon in the competition, though many argue that he really deserved to win.
