Arrest warrant issued vs Deniece Cornejo, Cedric Lee
A branch of Taguig Metropolitan Trial Court has issued an arrest warrant against freelance model Deniece Cornejo, businessman Cedric Lee Monday afternoon.
The arrest warrant was issued in connection to the grave coercion case that actor-comedian Vhong Navarro filed against Cornejo, Lee, and six others last January.
The arrest warrant comes four days after the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a resolution stating that there is probable cause for the filing of grave coercion and serious illegal detention against Lee and Cornejo as well as their companions Ferdinand Guerrero, Bernice Lee, Simeon Raz, Jose Paolo Calma, and Jed Fernandez.
Lee reportedly booked a Cebu Pacific flight to Dubai, United Arab Emirates over the weekend but eventually canceled it. Guerrero, for his part, was stopped by immigration officials from leaving for Hong Kong Monday morning.
It was later explained that technically, Lee and his fellow accused can still leave the country since there’s no arrest warrant against them yet although DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima warned the group that they can be held liable for obstruction of justice.
UPDATE: According to a report by ABS-CBN, Presiding Judge Bernard Pineda Bernal of the Taguig MTC has set the bail at P12,000 for Lee and his cohorts.
The serious illegal detention case meanwhile is being heard separately at Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 271. It is a non-bailable offense, but no arrest warrant has been issued so far.
