GMA News defends its Vhong Navarro report
GMA News is standing by its story about television personality Vhong Navarro, a contract artist of its rival ABS-CBN.
The network is the first media organization to report that a 22-year-old woman accused Navarro of trying to rape her according to a police blotter. The incident report was filed at the Investigative Section of the Southern Police District early dawn of January 23, or hours after he was supposedly attacked inside a condominium unit at The Fort, Taguig City.
In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the network explained that it sought the side of Vhong Navarro from the moment its reporters learned of the story.
“Roño, his manager, gave GMA News a written statement, which was aired yesterday. Today, GMA News aired an interview with Navarro’s lawyer Atty Alma Mallonga. Other news organizations also reported it,” the network said.
GMA News is apparently responding to criticisms, mainly from fans of ABS-CBN and Navarro, that it somehow skewed its reportage against the ‘Showtime’ host. As of Sunday night, #GMAPhilippinesWorstNetwork is one of the top trending topics on micro blogging site Twitter.
The network also insisted that the complainant involved in the Vhong Navarro incident, identified by netizens as Deniece Milinette Cornejo, is not related to GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon. Cornejo used a picture of her with Gozon and three other individuals as her profile shot in her now-deactivated Facebook account.

That girl should be banned by advertising agencies, tv networks and other companies. She should not be a model for any product. Cavorting with a married man and inviting a man to her private quarters doesn’t show good manners and breeding. Dapat pa nga i expel sa school yan if she is still a student
I agree
Now advertisers are having second thoughts about this girl because of her scandal.
