February 9 2013 Mandaluyong City Day Working Holiday

Residents of Mandaluyong City will have a working holiday this February 9, Saturday. The said Metro Manila city will mark its 68th liberation anniversary from Japanese occupation as well as the 19th anniversary of its cityhood on that day.

Formerly known as San Felipe Neri, Mandaluyong was upgraded into a highly urbanized city through Republic Act 7675, which was signed into law by then-President Fidel V. Ramos in 1994. Click here to read the full text of the Mandaluyong City Charter.

The city government under Mayor Benhur Abalos organized a number of activities during this day last year including the so-called Liberation Ball and the awarding of the Top Ten Taxpayers of Mandaluyong and Ulirang Mandaleno of 2012. Abalos also delivered his annual State of the City Address and State of the Children Address during the week-long anniversary festivities.
