October 26 2012 Eid’l Adha Philippine Holiday

Filipino Muslims will be celebrating their annual feast of sacrifice or Eid’l Adha on October 26. The day, which falls on a Friday, is a regular holiday in the country by virtue of Republic Act 9849, which was signed by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo back in 2009. Click here to read the full text of RA 9849.

The holiday has been listed by President Benigno Aquino III as one of the holidays for 2012 through Proclamation 295, which you can read in full here. The said proclamation states that the Palace will only officially declare Eid’l Adha and Eid’l Fitr as a holiday once the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos have determined the approximate dates where the said occasions will fall “in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations.”

The final date for the occasion has been  announced through Proclamation 488. Eid’l Adha is a religious fest where Muslims pay homage to Abraham’s supreme act of sacrificing his son Isaac – an event which signifies humans’ obedience to God.
