August 21 2012 Ninoy Aquino Day Holiday

On August 21 2012, the Philippines will commemorate the 29th death anniversary of former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., a stalwart opposition figure during the Marcos era. The day, which falls on a Tuesday, is a special non-working day in the country by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 9256. The law was enacted by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2004. The full text of RA 9256 can be read here.

In accordance to RA 9256, President Benigno Aquino III (Aquino’s only son and namesake) has listed August 21 2012 as one of the legal holidays for 2012 through Proclamation 295 (click here to read).

As noted in the first paragraph, the Ninoy Aquino day is a special non-working holiday and not a national holiday. Therefore, employees who report for work on August 21, 2012 will not get a “double pay.” Instead, they will get an additional of 30% to their regular hourly rate for every hour of service rendered.

This is in accordance to the pay rules set by the Department of Labor of Employment (DOLE). The labor department further states that employees who choose to will not report for work will not be paid “unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment of wages on special days even if unworked.”

  1. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  2. Hey there would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re working with? I’m going to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a difficult time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!|
