A new version of the infamous mail-order bride scheme?

A new version of the infamous mail-order bride scheme?

The website’s name is FilipinoCupid.com (Filipino Dating and Singles), and like other social networking sites, registration is free. Filipino women are enticed to “browse singles now” to “find your (their) foreign husband.”

In the advertisement, you can see a Western looking guy cuddling a Filipina, both smiling. Choosing a Caucasian to portray the “foreign husband” is significant. Don’t they consider Afghans, Iraqis, and Libyans as potential “foreign husbands,” too?

Hapless Filipinas are enticed to believe that finding a foreigner husband would help them get out of poverty. This isn’t mentioned in the online ad explicitly, but we know that this system works in that context. Why don’t we try it? Who knows, you just might be able to meet your Prince Charming – or someone who will beat you to death.

P.S: I saw this ad from the website of popular Filipino stand-up comedian Vice Ganda
