December 11 2012 holiday in Pampanga

The province of Pampanga will be marking its 441st foundation anniversary (or the annual Aldo ning Kapampangan) this December 11. The day, which this year falls on a Tuesday, is traditionally marked as a special non-working holiday in Pampanga.

Governor Lilia Pineda is expected to make an official declaration about this next week. Last year, Pineda’s decision to move the holiday from December 11 to December 12 (or from Sunday to Monday) was harshly criticized by some business leaders.

The Spanish colonizers reorganized what was once the Kingdom of Pampanga into a province under its tutelage in December 11, 1571. The old kingdom’s dominion included portions of the following modern-day provinces: Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Zambales. In 1982, then-President Ferdinand Marcos designated December 11 as a holiday for the province through Proclamation 2226. The full text of this declaration is not available online as of posting time.

The week-long festivities will begin on December 4, according to a Business Mirror report. The coronation night for this year’s Mutya Ning Kapampangan competition will be on December 10. Meanwhile, the recipients of the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Award will be honored on December 11.
